The Start of Things
I’ve tried writing things this morning, but I’ve failed. We have our first worship service as Jubilee Baptist in about an hour. All morning I’ve been listening to this song by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. It’s what I was listening to when I pulled into the parking lot of Ephesus Baptist the morning I preached and started on staff as the co-pastor of missions and outreach. I’m really grateful for those of you that read this newsletter. I’ve heard from some of you on occasion and the encouragement means a lot. Writing this has not only been a helpful way to keep myself writing, but also a great way to connect with people and reflect on what we’re doing together. As my friend Aaron told me recently: we only have each other, but it turns out that’s quite a lot.
When I’ve told people what we’re doing at the church for the past few months, they pretty routinely say “Well I’m excited to see how that goes!” and I usually respond “Me too!” Now it’s time to find out.
The podcast I mentioned in last week’s newsletter is now available here. We talk about the problems capitalism presents for Christians and what to do about them. If you’ve been looking for ways to understand such things, I think we do a pretty good job laying them out.
